What does this trading journal track?
Profit and loss
Enter the account balance after each trade. The journal calculates the change from the previous balance and the percentage return.
Realized R
See your actual percentage return relative to the risk percentage entered for the trade.
Win rate and drawdown
The dashboard summarizes your logged trades and shows the decline from the highest account balance reached.
Discipline and exit review
Record whether you followed your trading plan, note rule violations and optionally review what price did after your exit.
How to use the Google Sheets template
- Open the template and choose Make a copy. Sign in to Google to save your own editable version in Google Drive.
- In Settings, enter your starting balance and account currency. Edit the light turquoise input fields; leave calculation cells unchanged.
- Log each trade in Trades: market, direction, date, entry time, result, plan adherence, risk and closing account balance.
- Review the Dashboard regularly. Use the figures alongside your notes to identify recurring behavior and review your own rules.
Common questions about the free trading journal
Do I need Excel?
No. This template is designed for Google Sheets. You can use it in your browser on a Mac or Windows computer. An Excel subscription is not required.
Will other people see my trades?
The website links to a shared read-only template. Make your own copy rather than requesting edit access to the original. Access to your copy depends on the sharing settings you choose in Google Drive.
Do I need the BOBA Analysis Suite?
No. The trading journal works independently of the paid chart-analysis tool. You can use it to document your own trading approach.
